(Unable to smile, I try to look profound)

Hello, you have reached Luis López's web page. I am a professor of Spanish linguistics at the University of Illinois Chicago. I got my PhD from Cornell University in 1995 and I have been affiliated with UIC since 1999. I am a theoretical linguist and my main research question is 'what is the nature of the human language faculty?'  For most of my career my scholarship has revolved around syntactic theory and its interfaces with semantics, phonology, morphology and information structure. For many years I had the pleasure of (co) directing the Bilingualism Research Laboratory, and I published several papers on code-switching with colleagues and students as well as a monograph on bilingual grammar. For the last few years I have become interested in pragmatics, which has furnished me with a wonderful excuse to read all kinds of interesting stuff on philosophy of language and philosophy of law.

If you click on the menu on the upper left side corner you will get more information about my projects, publications, teaching and mentoring.

And please note! The Bilingualism Forum is coming up in October!
